Finishes & Stains

When comparing bids, remember we offer very durable finishes that will last longer than more commonly offered finishes. Consider the following when choosing your flooring contractor:
  • Wood type and quality (Different grades are available, see New Flooring Page)
  • Number of Finish Coats
  • Brand of Finish
Remember that most finishes start out looking nice, but they do not all wear the same. A wise choice of finishes will pay off by lasting longer and looking better. A less than reputable company will try to provide either fewer coats of finish, a lower grade of flooring or an inferior type of finish that will not wear well. If their price is real low, there is a reason, and with this big of an investment ,you need to know what you are purchasing.

The following are details on what you should expect from your wood flooring contractor and is what we provide to all of our customers, which is why more than half of our new customers come from referrals.
Water-based Commercial Grade
(low VOC, less harmful fumes)

Natural (no stain color) - 3 coats finish:
  • Day 1 - Water-based finish applied. Dry time 4-6 hours
  • Day 2 - Same as day 1
  • Day 3 - Same as day 1
Color Stained - stain sealant and 2 coats finish:
  • Day 1 - Stain Sealant applied. Dry time 8-12 hours
  • Day 2 - Water based finish applied. Dry time 4 - 6 hours
  • Day 3 - Same as day 2
Note: Multiple coats of water-based finish may be applied in the same day, if weather conditions permit.

Benefits of Water-Based Finish:
  • More Durable
  • Nonflammable
  • Less VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)
  • Faster Dry Times
  • Less Yellowing
Please note: This finish is more expensive then polyurethane but will last longer and not yellow over time.
